Growing native plants from seeds and cuttings.

Growing native plants from seeds and cuttings can be a lot of fun and very rewarding. Nature does the job of spreading the seed and growing plants better than we can. However, if nature needs a helping hand in your garden, here are some simple instructions to get you started:

• The first step when growing from seed is to collect the seed.

• The second step is to prepare the seed and sow it.

• Alternatively you can grow plants from cuttings.

• Finally you need to put your new plant into the ground.

Some excellent references to learn more about collecting, germinating, propagating and direct seeding are:

Your local Council, Bushcare or Landcare groups as well as Greening Australia are great sources of information for identifying and growing native plants.

You can ask your nearest Botanic Gardens or (Council) nursery if they are running any propagation classes.
