Native violet Baby Koel found
Vine along fence Basket grass under a tree

Once I got to know some of my natives, I began to see them everywhere. I decided which ones I wanted to encourage and where (like along the fencelines) and weeded around them. In time, they grew to cover the space and look healthy now.

The basket grass has a few bricks next to it, where little lizards take it in turns to subake, then shelter respectively.

One Summers day, I found a baby Koel upside down in a puddle of water. It was so hot that day, the little bird probably came down for a drink and fell into trouble. I picked it up carefully and put it in a cage together with a few branches for it to cling onto. After it had rested, I took it to the local Vet to get a Carer for it (apparently it was squalking for food and perked up in no time)!
